1. What We Collect
ParentSEE monitors network activity at the DNS level. We collect the following categories of information:
- Domain names — the websites and apps your child's device connects to (e.g., “youtube.com”), but never the full page URL or search queries.
- Category classifications — each domain is automatically tagged into categories such as “gaming,” “social media,” “education,” etc.
- Timestamps — when each connection occurred, so you can see usage patterns over time.
- Child and device identifiers — internal IDs that link activity to the correct child profile in your account.
- Parent account data — your email address, name, hashed password (for credential-based accounts), and payment information processed via Stripe.
Under COPPA, “Personal Information” includes a first and last name, online contact information (such as an email address), a screen or user name that functions as online contact information, a telephone number, a Social Security number, a persistent identifier that can be used to recognize a user over time and across different websites or online services, a photograph, video, or audio file containing a child's image or voice, geolocation information sufficient to identify a street name and city or town, and any information concerning a child or the child's parent that is combined with any of the above identifiers.
2. What We Do NOT Collect
We believe in awareness, not surveillance. ParentSEE never collects:
- Packet contents or encrypted traffic
- Full URLs, search queries, or page content
- IP addresses of your children's devices
- GPS location or physical whereabouts
- Text messages, chat messages, or emails
- Photos, videos, or files on any device
- Passwords or login credentials
- Keystrokes or screen recordings
We see patterns. Never content. Your child's private conversations stay private.
3. How We Use Data
The data we collect is used for two purposes only:
- Categorization and insights — we classify network activity into categories, detect app usage patterns, and generate AI-powered conversation starters and insights using Groq AI to help you connect with your child.
- Parental alerts — we notify you by email or in-app when activity matches categories you've marked as concerning, or when screen time exceeds limits you've set.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not share it with data brokers or marketing platforms. Your family's data exists to serve your family — no one else.
4. Children's Data (COPPA Notice)
ParentSEE is designed for parents and guardians to monitor the online activity of children under 18. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- Direct notice — this Privacy Policy serves as direct notice to parents regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of children's personal information.
- Access restriction — children do not create accounts or interact with ParentSEE directly. All data is collected through a parent's account, at the parent's direction, and is visible only to that parent.
- No direct child interaction — ParentSEE does not knowingly collect personal information from children without verified parental consent.
If you believe data has been collected about a child without proper parental consent, please contact us immediately at admin@parentsee.com or (715) 513-6025 and we will delete it promptly. You may also file a complaint with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
5. Parental Consent
Before any monitoring begins, ParentSEE requires explicit parental consent through a two-step process:
- Plain-language summary — a clear screen that shows exactly what ParentSEE collects (domain names, categories, timestamps, device identifiers) and what it does not collect (messages, passwords, full URLs, IP addresses, GPS location, photos, keystrokes, or packet contents). You must review this summary before proceeding.
- Verifiable parental consent — consent is verified via a credit or debit card transaction. This method satisfies COPPA's requirement for verifiable parental consent by confirming that the consenting party has access to a financial instrument not typically available to a child.
Both steps must be completed before any monitoring data is accessible. Each consent action is recorded with the policy version, timestamp, and source. These records are preserved indefinitely for audit purposes.
6. Data Retention and Security
We keep your data only as long as it's useful to you:
- Traffic data — all DNS traffic entries, app sessions, and usage trends are automatically deleted after 90 days.
- Alerts and insights — alerts and AI-generated insights follow the same 90-day retention window.
- Account data — your account profile, children's profiles, and settings are kept until you delete your account.
- Consent records — preserved indefinitely for legal and audit purposes, even after account deletion.
When you request account or data deletion, all applicable data will be removed within 30 days. If a child in your account turns 13, you may continue monitoring with existing consent, but we encourage you to discuss the monitoring with your child at that age.
ParentSEE maintains a Written Information Security Program (WISP) that includes encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, regular security reviews, and incident response procedures to protect your family's data.
7. Your Parental Data Rights
You are in control of your family's data at all times. You have the right to:
- Review and export — review all data collected about your children and export it in a machine-readable format.
- Revoke consent — withdraw your consent for data collection at any time, which will stop all monitoring.
- Delete per-child data — remove all traffic entries, alerts, and insights for a specific child while keeping the rest of your account intact.
- Delete your account — permanently remove your account and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at admin@parentsee.com or (715) 513-6025. We will respond within 5 business days.
8. Third-Party Services
ParentSEE uses a small number of trusted service providers to operate. Each is bound by their own privacy commitments:
- Neon — database hosting. Your data is stored in a secure, encrypted Postgres database.
- Resend — email delivery for alert notifications.
- Vercel — application hosting for the ParentSEE web application.
- Stripe — payment processing and parental consent verification. We never see or store your full credit card number.
- Groq — AI processing for traffic analysis and insights. Groq receives only domain name strings for classification. No personally identifiable information (PII) is sent to Groq.
- Sentry — error monitoring on the parent dashboard only. No child data is sent to Sentry.
- Google OAuth — optional sign-in method for parent accounts.
- FCM / APNs — push notification delivery for the mobile app.
- Cloudflare — DNS infrastructure and DDoS protection.
We have no advertising partners. We do not embed trackers, retargeting pixels, or analytics scripts from ad networks.
9. International Users
ParentSEE is intended for use within the United States only. We do not knowingly collect data from users in the European Union or the United Kingdom, and we do not process data under the GDPR or UK GDPR. If you are located outside the United States, please do not use this service.
