Using the ParentSEE Chrome Extension
Using the ParentSEE Chrome Extension
The ParentSEE Chrome Extension lets you see the websites your child visits in Chrome, in a privacy-respecting way. It's how ParentSEE monitors Chromebooks.
What it sees, and what it doesn't
A browser extension only sees activity in the browser it's installed in, and only while it's enabled. It does not see:
What it captures is domain names only (e.g., youtube.com, instagram.com). It never captures page content, messages, search queries, passwords, cookies, or browsing history.
On a Chromebook: the right fit
On a Chromebook, Chrome is essentially the whole device, so the extension covers nearly everything. This is the recommended way to monitor a Chromebook.
To set up a Chromebook, follow the Chromebook setup guide.
You can also install it directly from the Chrome Web Store: ParentSEE Monitor.
On a Windows PC or Mac
The extension is also how ParentSEE monitors a Windows PC or a Mac: choose Chrome browser when you add the device. It sees only Chrome on that computer, so other browsers and apps there are not covered. (The desktop installer is no longer offered.)
How pairing works
ParentSEE links the extension to your account with a short pairing code. There's no sign-in on the child's device. You generate a 6-character code in the app, install the extension, and enter the code. Full steps are in the Chromebook setup guide.
Removing the extension
Right-click the ParentSEE extension icon and choose Remove from Chrome, or go to chrome://extensions and click Remove.
ParentSEE shows you the website names visited in the browser. It never shows the contents of messages, searches, or what's on the screen.
